About Jayun nic Dōwell
Green Revolution, California - 1981
It was 1981; five years after the Judgment of Paris bestowed top honours on Napa Valley wine – and Jayun nic Dōwell found herself in the California counties of Humbolt and Napa, part of a group of aspiring growers and vintners focused on taking food and wine to a higher level of purity and quality. The “Revolution”, as they loosely called themselves, aimed to share their consciousness of green agriculture, medicinal plants and ancient traditions with those seeking a more genuine life.
Jayun and Revolution BC expand green and include organic - 1986
In 1986 Jayun brought the Revolution ideology home to Canada. Friends on British Columbia’s West Coast contributed their knowledge and introduced Jayun to the world of organics: Growing healthy, more flavourful food; protecting the planet’s precious resources; and keeping farm workers safe was a no-brainer. Embracing the emerging concept of certified organic Jayun and Revolution BC found their circle expanding.
Medicinal Mushroom Professional Consultancy - 1999
Beginning in 1999, Jayun integrated medicinal mushroom extracts into her daily health regime. As a soul cyclist, surfer, swimmer, reader and thinker, and one who follows an organic végan diet, Jayun fuels her body, mind and heart with foods that fulfill her belief and conscience.
After partnering with internet startups in the 1990s, Jayun leveraged the new technology to continue her research of mushrooms as medicine and functional food. Looking to start her own business Jayun was instead persuaded to join NAMMEX, a Canadian medicinal mushroom company, working directly with the president to improve product quality and corporate ethos.
Pure Mushroom Initiative™ - 2006
Moving NAMMEX away from mycelia grown on grain became a priority during Jayun’s tenure. In 2006, Jayun’s research grew into The Pure Mushroom Initiative. Her initial in-house report focused on three pivotal issues: to stop the company’s use of mycelia grown on grain and move the company to Pure Mushroom™ products; to discontinue use of any foreign carriers in the company extracts; and to create the highest standard of medicinal mushroom certified organic testing in the world.
The Pure Mushroom Initiative now documents quality standards for all stages of production. It is the first and only initiative that addresses production and professional responsibilities for medicinal mushroom companies. Pure MI is open source; available to everyone.
Traditional Future - 2013
Remaining true to her integrity, quality standards and innovative thinking Jayun established Traditional Future Medicinal Mushroom Extracts in 2013. Principled in The Pure Mushroom Initiative and respecting the ancient traditional use of medicinal mushrooms and the exciting future of scientific methodologies, Traditional Future honours a clear mission - providing the highest quality medicinal mushrooms in the world.
The Vancouver Cannabis Initiative - 2017
In 2015, Jayun began spending more time at her cabin on the Sunshine Coast, BC, Canada. She reconnected with friends who had developed careers in Cannabis and her love of the plant and it’s effects was renewed. Jayun was encouraged to create a model of professional standards for the marijuana industry, as she had accomplished for the medicinal mushroom industry. Jayun loved the idea of working in collaboration with the wealth of smart, responsible people who wish to provide the healthiest, purist marijuana products to clients. Research began in 2016 and in 2017 The Vancouver Cannabis Initiative was established.
Jayun nic Dōwell’s only financial investment in the industry is TVCI.
